Client apps for law firms: case status, documents and updates without the phone calls

Next Era Solutions builds mobile apps that let a law firm's clients follow their own case. They see each stage, upload documents, check payments and read the lawyer's comments. A push notification tells them when something changes. We built the native iOS and Android apps for Merezha Prava, a Ukrainian legal-services company. The first MVP shipped in 3–4 months, and we built and ran the product for about two years.

The intro call is 30 minutes (the NeetoCal intro event, read 24 Sep 2026).

Is this you?

Your cases run for months.

Our founder's first signal: cases that run two months or longer (his LinkedIn post, 5 May 2026).

Hundreds of clients are active at once,

and each of them wants to know where their case stands.

Documents travel both ways:

contracts, court papers, ID. Today they arrive by email and chat apps, and some never reach the case file.

Clients ask for a status update more than once a week,

and answering the phone takes up your team's day.

Probably not a fit:

fewer than two of the four above. Our founder's rule of thumb (LinkedIn post, 5 May 2026) is that a better CRM plus a chatbot is then the cheaper fix.

What you get

  • Native iOS and Android apps for your clients, as we built for Merezha Prava. We would build that product native again.
  • A case timeline: stages, payments, documents and lawyer comments in one place, for each client's own case.
  • Push notifications for each stage of the lawyer's work, with deep links that open the right case.
  • Document upload from the phone, so a file lands in the case instead of in someone's chat app.
  • Sign-in by phone number with an SMS code.
  • A backend and a web admin, as we built for Merezha Prava. Its app is backed by a Laravel service with CRM integrations.

How it runs

StepWhat happensHow long
1. First callYour firm, your clients, the questions they phone about, and the systems your cases live in. Oleksiy takes the call.30 min
2. DiscoveryDmytro, our business analyst and project manager, turns it into requirements and a scope we can price. A full discovery has a fixed price, which depends on the product.Depends on scope
3. First releaseThe case timeline, documents and notifications first. A typical MVP reaches its first release in 60–90 days, depending on scope. Merezha Prava's first MVP took 3–4 months.Depends on scope
4. Bring clients acrossAdoption takes months, not weeks. Some clients keep calling, and some can't use an app at all (our founder's LinkedIn post, 14 May 2026). Plan the move for your clients who still phone.Months
5. Keep buildingNew features, fixes and store updates. On Merezha Prava we did this for about two years.Ongoing
  • What to have ready: any team that builds this will need access to your CRM or case-management system, your list of case stages, a few sample documents, and the people who answer client questions today. Gathering them early saves time.
  • Store accounts: decide before the first upload whose developer accounts publish the app. Merezha Prava's apps are published under the client's own accounts.

Pricing

  • Rates are per engineer, about $30–$90 an hour, depending on level and experience. No minimum project size. We work three ways: time and material, a fixed price, or engineers in your team.
  • Invoicing: in USD or EUR (GBP possible), on net 14 or net 30 terms. The rights to the code pass to you as each invoice is paid.
  • What a legal client app costs: [TEAM SUPPLIES (owner): whether Merezha Prava's budget band may be shown here (the client's OK is asked in the combined Merezha message), or a typical range for a first release]
  • Will it pay back? Our ROI calculator has a legal template. Run it with your own call volume, admin hours and case values. In its conservative legal scenario, calls are only a small part of the payback: staff time and repeat work carry most of it, so measure those first.

What a legal client app has to get right

What law-firm clients need, and where we met it

Each row is a feature of the Merezha Prava apps, as the case study lists it.

To trust the notificationsMessages about the client's own case only. 77% of Merezha Prava's users turned notifications on.Merezha Prava

An app won't replace the phone. Merezha Prava's inbound calls fell by 15%, not by half: some clients keep calling, and some can't use an app because of age, digital skills or an old phone (our founder's LinkedIn post, 14 May 2026). Plan for that.

Native iOS; Android in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose; a Laravel backend with a REST API; OneSignal and Firebase for notifications; an integration with the firm's Creatio CRM.

Before you build: what to check

Sources read on 25 September 2026 (SRA, ICO) and 23 September 2026 (ContactBabel, Airship). This is general information, not legal advice: confirm with your own adviser. [TEAM SUPPLIES: re-read the sources on publish day and update these dates; a lawyer reads this list before it goes live]

  • Confidentiality stays your duty. In England and Wales, the SRA Code of Conduct for Solicitors says: "You keep the affairs of current and former clients confidential unless disclosure is required or permitted by law or the client consents" (6.3). An app moves client files onto phones and servers, so ask any supplier, us included, where the data is stored, who can reach it and how access is removed. SRA Code of Conduct for Solicitors
  • Clients should understand their matter. The same code asks solicitors to give clients information "in a way they can understand" (8.6). A plain case timeline is one way to do that between meetings. SRA Code of Conduct for Solicitors
  • Remote access can be an international transfer. The UK regulator counts making personal information accessible to a separate organisation outside the UK as a transfer, not only sending it. Settle this in writing before anyone gets access to live client data. With us, how personal data is handled and transferred is agreed in writing for each project. Ask us about yours. ICO, International transfers: a guide
  • Know what a call costs you. ContactBabel's 2024 study of UK contact centres puts the mean cost of an inbound call at £5.58 and the median at £4.18, with a median service call of 6 minutes. A law office is not a contact centre, so count your own calls and minutes first. ContactBabel, UK Contact Centre Decision-Makers' Guide 2024
  • Expect fewer people to allow notifications than you hope. Airship's 2025 benchmarks put the 2024 median push opt-in at 59.5% on Android and 49.4% on iOS, and recommend a soft prompt that explains the value before the system dialog. Airship measures opt-in differently from the 77% above, so treat the two as a rough comparison. Airship, 2025 Push Notification Benchmarks
